This past Saturday, July 18th, we had weather forecasts calling for severe thunderstorms.  As predicted, the team of Reggie Warren, Richard Harpell, and Gus Segredo found themselves gathering their cooking gear, and food stuffs in the pouring rain.  Richard had bicycled to Hempstead Lake State Park just before the rains came.  He found himself safe and dry under the Pavilion facility at the park.  In fact, he shared the cover from the storm with a family from another church who was not so fortunate, their picnic area was soaked.  In fact, over the course of the morning, we had three church groups come to us to find out how we were able to reserve this spot for ourselves.

By 12:30 our church members along with their family and friends started arriving.  Most brought along some dishes for all to share in fellowship.  In addition, to the 8 oz. burgers, the Sabrett hot dogs, the watermelons, and the corn on the cob, we also enjoyed the Andrews' potato salad, and three bean salad,  and Brenda Leotaud's prized baked beans.  Debra Bhuya brought her famous quenching fruit cocktail.  Marva Harrington and Gus Segredo each brought 60 pieces of finger-licking good fried chicken; Marva's from Stop & Shop, Gus' from Popeye's!!  Many other families brought their dishes,i.e. Arvella's Rum Cake.  While Reggie worked the grill, we chilled out to the sounds of a smooth jazz playlist that never failed to achieved its desired effect.  The children played basketball in the early afternoon, and then later on had a non-stop water balloon fight.

By the way, did I mention that the rain ended by noon and that we had a cool breeze with sunshine until about 3:30pm?  God is Good All the Time, and All the Time, God is Good.
